Dorothy Jackson-Brown

Secretary

Dorothy Brown Jackson is a native of Greenville, South Carolina and she is the eighth of thirteen children. Her family relocated to Amityville, New York where she completed her education with a Bachelor of Science degree from State University of New York (SUNY) at Old Westbury. Dorothy is a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Family is everything.

After several decades in New York, Dorothy transferred to Charlotte, North Carolina with her job at Allstate Insurance. A co-worker, Evelyn Hollis, invited her to a National Council of Negro Women (NCNW) event and she has been an active member for more than fifteen (15) years.  Being a member of NCNW has allowed Dorothy to continue serving and assisting others along with creating strong relationships within the NCNW family.

Dorothy feels her mother was like our founder, Dr. Mary McCloud Bethune, in that she was always willing to help everyone—even with a house full of kids of her own. “The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree”: serving and giving comes natural to Mrs. Jackson.

Dorothy is now retired from Allstate Insurance and American Airlines. She is a member of the New Hope Baptist Church, The Black Political Caucus of Charlotte Mecklenburg, the Alpha Pi Chi National Sorority, SISTAHS Social Club, and the NAACP. Her hobbies are entertaining, traveling, baking, and family gatherings.

Her motto: Trust God and do good. Psalm 37:3
